We welcome you to visit for a day, a week, and recurring visits to co-work with colleagues, schedule group and project meetings, or think alone with a view. We dreamed to life a spectrum of collaboration spaces - shared offices, phone rooms, lounge seating, worktables, bench seating, meeting rooms, kitchen, and a full 150-person auditorium. Amenities include an espresso maker, wellness and prayer room, gym, game room, and blackboards.

How to Request A Day Pass or Week-Pass
Anyone without a building access badge must be registered in the building's security system before their arrival. This access only provides entrance to the elevator and not to the suite. NITMB is open to visitors 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday – Friday.
When you arrive use the 172 E Chestnut Street entrance to check in at the security desk with your federal or state ID. A day pass will be printed for your visit. Each day requires a new pass printed by security. Take the elevators to the 35th floor.
Please note:
1) Due to volume, expect your request to be processed within one business day.
2) We are unable to let non-registered visitors through security until our team confirms their information and enters it into the security system.
3) When you arrive use the Chestnut Street entrance to check in at the security desk with your federal or state ID. If you asked for more than one day of access, each day you need to obtain a new paper pass at the security desk.

Office door keys are provided to NITMB Fellows, Visiting Scholars, and Staff with permanent desks. Visiting Scholars may have a badge access if they have an official appointment.
Lost Keys or Badges (!)
Please notify Kierra Hannon at access@nitmb.org immediately if you have a lost a key, Hancock building badge, or your badge so that she can deactivate it. Replacement cards cost $25 and must be reported.
Leaving NITMB You must return your Hancock badge and keys to Kierra Hannon at access@nitmb.org. Return your Wildcard to your department. Visiting Scholars, including UChicago employees, return your wildcard to NITMB staff.

Utilize the Downtown Campus Connector to commute to the NITMB! Anyone with an active University of Chicago ID card can access the Downtown Campus Connecter.
The shuttle operates every 20 minutes from 6:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, except university holidays.
To access NITMB, ride the Downtown Campus Connector until the Wacker (Upper) + Stetson stop. From there, it is a 20-minute walk to NITMB (walking map link). Or, to take a bus the rest of the way, walk to the Michigan & Hubbard CTA bus stop to utilize CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.

#2 Hyde Park Express
The #2 Hyde Park Express runs weekdays from 6:00 am - 9:20 am and 3:40 pm - 6:05 pm. You can board the northbound #2 (Navy Pier) bus at the UChicago campus at the Cottage Grove and 57th Street bus stop. Then, ride the bus until the Michigan & Grand stop. At this point, you can either walk 10 minutes to NITMB (walking map link) or you can utilize CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.
#4 Cottage Grove
From the UChicago campus, walk to the Cottage Grove & 56th Street bus stop. Then, ride the northbound #4 Cottage Grove (Columbus, Randolph) bus until the Randolph & Michigan bus stop. From this stop, you can choose to walk 20 minutes north to the NITMB (see walking map) or you can utilize northbound CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.
#6 Jackson Park Express
From the UChicago campus, you can first take the northbound #171 (54th/South Shore) CTA bus line (free to anyone who shows a valid UChicago ID) to the S. Hyde Park & 55th Street bus stop. Then, ride the northbound #6 Jackson Park Express (Wacker/Columbus) bus until the Michigan & S. Water bus stop. From this stop, you can choose to walk 20 minutes north to the NITMB (see walking map) or you can utilize northbound CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.
By Train
Red Line
From the UChicago campus, walk to the 55th Street & Ellis bus stop. Then, ride the westbound CTA #55 Garfield (Midway) bus until the Garfield Red Line Station bus stop. Then, wait for the northbound (Howard) Red Line train. Ride this train until the Chicago stop. From this stop, walk 10 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
Metra Electric
Metra offers a fast, safe train route from Hyde Park to downtown Chicago, giving you efficient access to the NITMB.
First, purchase tickets for the Metra Electric line in the Ventra App. When purchasing tickets, you will be asked to select which train stops you would like to travel between. There are three stops in Hyde Park: 51st/53rd Street, 55th/56th/57th Street, and 59th Street University of Chicago. These stops are all on the east side of Hyde Park (see map below).
Once you have your ticket, check the Metra Electric Schedule to find out when the next train heading inbound to Millennium Station will be available at your stop. You can either walk to the Metra stop (see walking map from UChicago campus), or you can ride a UChicago campus shuttle to a Metra stop. UChicago operates two bus routes that can take you to a Metra station; the Blue route (Friend Center & Metra Route) and the Green route (Midway Metra). When at your chosen train stop, make sure you are standing on the side marked for trains to Chicago.
After boarding the train, Metra staff will walk through the train to review tickets. If you purchased tickets on your phone, open the Ventra app, activate the ticket you wish to use, and show your screen to train staff.
Ride the train to the final stop, Millennium Station. Once at Millennium Station, exit to the street level. NITMB is then a 20-minute walk north (see walking map). Or, to take a bus the rest of the way, walk to the Michigan & Hubbard CTA bus stop to utilize CTA bus routes 146, 147, or 151 to ride the rest of the way to the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop.
Bike
You can use Chicago's bike trails for convenient transportation to the NITMB. Traveling by bike to the NITMB via the Lakefront Trail will take about 54 minutes. (See bike map)
Access points to the lakefront trail in Hyde Park are available at the 51st Street Pedestrian Bridge, 55th Street, and 57th Street Beach.

From the Northwestern University campus, walk to the Church & Chicago Avenue bus stop. Then, board the southbound Pace #213 (Howard CTA Station) bus. Ride this bus until the Howard CTA station. Then, board the southbound #147 bus (Congress Plaza). Ride this bus until the Michigan & Delaware stop. Then, walk 3 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
By Train
Purple Line
From the Northwestern University campus, walk 10 minutes (see walking map) to the Davis station. Then, board the southbound Purple Line train (Howard). Ride the train until the Howard stop. Then, walk to the Paulina & Howard Terminal. Board the southbound #147 bus (Congress Plaza). Ride this bus until the Michigan & Delaware stop. Then, walk 3 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
Depending on the time of day, it may be faster to instead transfer from the Purple Line to the Red Line. If this is the case, walk 10 minutes (see walking map) to the Davis station. Then, board the southbound Purple Line train (Howard). Ride the train until the Howard stop. Then, board the southbound Red Line train (95th/Dan Ryan). Ride this train until the Chicago stop. From this stop, walk 10 minutes to the NITMB (see walking map).
Bike
You can use Chicago's bike trails for convenient transportation to the NITMB. Traveling by bike to the NITMB from Northwestern's Evanston campus via the Lakefront Trail will take about 1 hour and 8 minutes. (See bike map)

From the O'Hare International Airport CTA Blue Line stop, board a southbound Blue Line CTA train, either to Forest Park or UIC-Halsted. Stay on the train until the Chicago stop. From the Chicago stop, walk 2 minutes to the Chicago & Milwaukee (Blue Line) bus stop. Then, board the eastbound CTA 66 bus to Navy Pier. Stay on this bus until the Chicago & Michigan stop. From this stop, walk 6 minutes north on Michigan Avenue to NITMB.
Alternatively, you can choose to stay on the CTA Blue Line train until the Washington stop, then walk 5 minutes to the State & Randolph bus stop, where you can board the northbound CTA 146, CTA 147, or CTA 151 bus lines and stay on the bus until the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop next to NITMB.
From NITMB to O'Hare to NITMB
From NITMB, walk south on Michigan Avenue to the Chicago & Michigan bus stop. At this bus stop, board the westbound CTA 66 bus line to Austin. Stay on the bus until the Chicago & Milwaukee (Blue Line) bus stop. From this bus stop, walk two minutes to the Chicago Blue Line stop. At this stop, board the northbound Blue Line train to O'Hare. Stay on the train until the train's final stop, O'Hare, inside the O'Hare International Airport.

From Midway to NITMB
From Midway International Airport, board the northbound CTA Orange Line to the Loop at the Midway Orange Line stop. Stay on the Orange Line train until the State/Lake stop. Then, walks three minutes to the State & Lake bus stop. Board the northbound CTA 146 to Foster/Broadway. Stay on the bus until the Michigan & Chestnut bus stop next to NITMB.
Alternatively, you can exit the Orange Line train at the Roosevelt stop, then board the northbound CTA Red Line train to Howard. Stay on the Red Line train until the Chicago stop. Then walk 10 minutes to NITMB. (see walking map).
From NITMB to Midway
From NITMB, walk to the Michigan & Delaware bus stop. Then, board the southbound CTA 146 bus to Museum Campus. Stay on the bus until the State & Lake bus stop. Walk to the State/Lake CTA train station. Then, board the southbound Orange Line train to Midway. Stay on the train until the train's final stop, Midway, at Midway International Airport.
Alternatively, you can use the CTA Red Line train first. Walk to the Chicago CTA train stop. Then, board the southbound CTA Red Line train to 95th/Dan Ryan. Stay on the train until the Roosevelt stop. At the Roosevelt stop, transfer to the southbound Orange Line train to Midway. Stay on the train until the train's final stop, Midway, at Midway International Airport.

If you are not a Northwestern or University of Chicago employee. NITMB can provide a voucher for this garage for either 6 or 24 hours.
Please note, we will are not able to reimburse parking in the John Hancock Building Parking. If you are parking for a week, each day you must use one of the 24-hour discount tickets to exit and re-enter the parking garage. If you do not exit and re-enter the garage, you will be required to pay full price for the duration of your parking. NITMB can only provide 24-hour discount tickets, we cannot reimburse you for the full price of parking.
Northwestern University Employees
NITMB will provide you with a pink discount coupon. You may pick up 1 voucher at time, each good for 5 separate uses. Each usage provides up to 12 hours of parking for $15.00. Vouchers only work in the Erie/Ontario garages (Lots C & D). When checking out at a parking kiosk enter your ticket then scan the voucher for the discounted rate to appear.
Northwestern employees, may also pick up the pink discount coupon on the first floor of Abbott Hall, 710 N. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL60611. Up to 12 hours of parking for $11.00 if in salary tiers 1-4 and$14.00 for salary tiers 5-7. If parked for 12 hours or more, regular garage rates will apply. Vouchers work in the Superior and Erie lots. You may pick up 2 vouchers, each good for 5 uses, at a time.
