Engine Knocking Sounds: Safe to Drive or a Serious Warning?

So I’m hoping someone here has dealt with this before, because my car started making this weird knocking sound yesterday on my way back from work. At first I thought it was just bad fuel or something loose under the hood, but it kept getting louder when I accelerated. I still drove home because I didn’t want to leave the car in the middle of nowhere, but now I’m kinda worried I made it worse. Has anyone driven with that sound for a bit? Did it end up being a big repair or something simple?

Engine knocking is one of those sounds you should never ignore. Sometimes it’s just low-quality fuel or incorrect ignition timing, but in many cases it points to serious internal damage. I’ve seen people keep driving and turn a manageable repair into a total loss. That’s why I always recommend being realistic about a car’s condition. If engine damage is suspected, checking salvage and damage-history options like https://www.autobidmaster.com/en/locations/usa/wisconsin/wi-milwaukee/flood-damage/ can actually help you understand real repair risks and costs before making a bad decision.
